The weather is finally nice enough to put out the Hen House we bought for Finn at his school auction. Steve’s been busy building a run to surround it. Sarah’s been nesting. We went to Pistils Nursery earlier this week. We had a plan of what we were going to get, but fate stepped in and we ended up with a different clutch. We added Finn’s hen Angel (a Standard Leghorn), Sarah’s hen Boots (a Barred Cochin Bantam), Steve’s hen Dolly (supposed to be a “big on top” Standard Light Brahma) and Hildi’s hen Monkey (this little Silver Sebring Bantam) does like to monkey around. There are pictures of them now and what they are supposed to look like when full grown. We’ve really enjoyed them so far. We eat dinner and breakfast at the dining room table so that we can watch them. Want eggs? Send us your cartons. We should be ready to start filling them around Hildi’s 3rd birthday. We plan to give them away, but Finn’s has a plan of his own. He’s been telling people like his bus driver Joan, “I’m going to be a chicken farmer and start a business selling eggs.” Watch the movie Kit Kittridge (a movie about the Great Depression) and you’ll see where he got his inspiration.
