South Shore Sights - Kauai, Hawaii

It is true what they say about the South Shore, it is sunnier. We spent two days on Po’ipu Beach. It was a good mix of places to snorkel and a lovely kiddy area where Finn learned to snorkel, found an eel and played with some boys his age, where Hildi could run around or touch bottom and kick her feet and where Trask was nearly Monk Seal food Seriously one swam right up to where he and Finn were playing and the lifeguards got on the loud speaker, “Dangerous Monk Seal, remove your kids from the water.” There were a couple of areas where we could snorkel too and found lots of fish. It is true what Steve says about snorkel gear, “Nobody looks very sexy in it.” After Po’ipu Beach we’d take the short drive to Koloa town and get some delicious ice cream (try coconut and pineapple mixed if you are there). We drove to Spouting Horn down there too. The houses along the beach were almost more interesting than the Spouting Horn, but the sound the water made in the chamber of the Spouting Horn is unforgettable.
