Reality Bites

Obviously we sensor what we put out here. This shot is in no way flattering (me and the two kids about a week after Hildi was born when Finn was sick), but this is reality with two kids. Here's a day we had about two weeks later that I shared with my friends who don't have kids:

"Finn's first day of preschool nearly sent me into a nervous breakdown. Before I picked him up I had been Superwoman at home and had just gotten groceries. I was met by him in shorts he didn't wear to school (a sure sign he pooped in his pants -- something we've been working on FOREVER), then seconds later the director of the school happened to be there to give me the news about Finn telling his teacher to, "Shut her mouth." When I got home Steve was on the roof blowing leaves, so I had to yell at him to get him down to help, then was in trouble for yelling. Finn and I went for some Mommy & Finn time to the pool and our pool key wouldn't work! Then we couldn't get cell coverage there "network busy." Finally someone came and let us in. I called Steve to see if I had time to warm up and change. He said that Hildi had been screaming since we left. So I headed home in a towel. Nursed her on the couch in my wet swim suit. Couldn't get her to quit screaming, so drove her around town stopping twice on some errands I'd have had to run the next day anyway. Got home, she had a big poop. That was all the fuss was about. Finn had fallen asleep (turns out he slept 15 minutes instead of 2+ hours in his new class) in the living room. Steve put him to bed, Hildi was quite. Ahhh -- but nope. Finn woke up, acted delirious and peed on Steve and on the carpeted stairs - about 5 feet from the toilet. So, in the bath he went. I started steam cleaning!! Luckily his second day of school was smoother . . . "
